Contrarily it is not the same, Overseas and in developed countries where pharmacists are an integral part of health care team.

The Western and European Countries rose to the occasion and took timely decision to include Pharm.D Coures, which is a six year integrated Post Graduate programme, basically focusing on clinical aspects of Pharmacy. Interestingly middle east countries like Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria and Egypt too started Pharm.D Course. Patient care and patient oriented professional approach in health care is the center point of Pharm.D. Currently Pharmacy graduates from India are not eligible to take up jobs as practicing pharmacists in many countries, particularly in the Western Countries, where Pharm.D is the professional qualification for practicing pharmacy.

Pharm.D curriculum provides students with education and training in clinical pharmacy, pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical patient care. This Course gives an in-depth knowledge to the pharmacist to understand health care, diagnosis and treatment of diseases , the therapeutic uses.appropriateness, selection, monitoring and cost effectiveness of drugs.
In May 2008, a central gazette notification to start Pharm.D in India was issued by the Ministry of Health, Central Government and subsequently approved and sanctioned permission as per the Pharmacy Act 1948 ,where Pharmacy Council of India is the sole regulatory body.

The Pharm.D Course in India is laid down in two formats.
