Established in 1967, the University of Salford is a leading public institution of higher education and research in Salford, Great Manchester, New England. It was originally set up as Royal Technical Institute in 1896, transforming into the College of Advanced Technology in 1956. The institution received the university status under the Royal Charter of 1967. It has affiliations from numerous reputable organizations such as the University Alliance, Association of Commonwealth Universities and North West Universities Association.
The University of Salford boasts a beautiful 160-acre main campus located along the banks of River Irwell, referred to as the Peel Park Campus. The campus consists of pathways, parking areas, green spaces and buildings housing high-end academic, administrative and support facilities and services. The Clifford Whitworth Library on the campus holds a wide collection of printed and digital resources that can be used for learning, teaching and research by both students and faculty. It remains open 24×7 and provides quiet study spaces as well as access to laptops and PCs. The campus also has the Salford Museum and Art Gallery, England’s first free public library.
The university maintains a sports centre that houses a swimming pool (25 m), spa, sauna and a multi-purpose hall for Pilates, yoga and Zumba classes. The university offers housing facility to students in two of the accommodation villages, namely Peel Park Quarter and John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts, with postgraduate students preferably living in the latter facility. Notably, its Peel Park Quarter was voted the second-best student accommodation in the UK by Student Hut.
