Calicut University was established in the year 1968. It is located in Mallapuram, Kerala. It has been re-accredited with an A+ grade from NAAC. As per NIRF Ranking 2022, it has bagged 69th rank in the ‘University’ category with a score of 44.93. Calicut University has 34 postgraduate departments and 406 affiliated colleges. Of the 406 affiliated colleges, 107 are located in Kozhikode District, 78 in Thrissur District, 126 in Malappuram District, 78 in Palakkad District and 17 in Wayanad District. The university has two off-campus centres- Dr John Matthai Centre or JMC, a centre for teaching and research in economics at Thrissur and ITSR, a centre specifically for tribal empowerment, located in the Western Ghats, Wayanad. Besides these two centres, there are self-financing centres. Calicut University campus is spread over an area of 520 acres of land. The total built-up area constitutes 2,01,918.25 m2. Calicut University facilities include CSIF, a museum, an animal house, a botanical garden, a park, an observatory, a manuscript library, other libraries, ICT-enabled classrooms and seminar halls.
Calicut University courses are offered under the following departments within the campus- Arabic, Botany, Biotechnology, Women Studies, Chemistry, Commerce and Management Studies, Computer Science, Education, English, Hindi, History, Political Science, Mass Communication and Journalism, Life Science, Library and Information Science, Malayalam and Kerala Studies, Mathematics, Nanoscience and Technology, Philosophy, Physics, Physical Education, Psychology, Russian and Comparative Literature, Sanskrit, Folklore Studies, Statistics, Zoology, Environmental Science, Geology, Sociology and Law. Calicut University admissions are done through a centralised admission process for most of the UG and PG courses. For a few courses, CUCAT is the basis of admission. For admission to the Calicut University MBA course, KMAT, CMAT, and IIM-CAT scores are accepted. As per Calicut University placement report 2023 for PG programmes (three years) the placement percentage was 100%.
